Peace Corps EHR Plans

A recent article by healthcareITnews.com's Mary Mosquera discussed the plans for the Peace Corps implementation of an EHR.

Volunteers from the Peace Corps serve in 77 developing countries. The Peace Corps plans to develop an EHR concept by September, and deploy it in 2013.

One obstacle that the Peace Corps will have to overcome is the availability of Internet access in some of the locations. Many of the sites have low bandwidth, and higher bandwidth is expensive to implement.

The Agency is planning on making sure the EHR is a solution that works in ever location, saying "an overall solution must work for all posts, not just the well-connected ones."
